Metamorphic technique
What’s so great about a bit of tapping and touching? Ask our guinea pig, Lisa Cornwell, who morphed into a domestic goddess overnight
What is it?
Metamorphic Technique was developed in the 1960’s by British naturopath and reflexologist, Robert St John. He discovered that by applying a light touch to the spinal reflex points on the feet, hands and head, energy patterns are transformed to help with emotional, physical and behavioural problems, such as stress, arthritis and sleeping disorders. Some people feel a renewed sense of energy and well-being after just one session.
How did the session start?
My practitioner, Axelle Bonaparte, took a few minutes to talk me through what the Metamorphic technique is all about. She also explained that for the 48 hours following my session I’d feel either extremely relaxed and chilled out, or hyper-active, but what whatever happened I’d see a change in my outlook almost immediately. After removing my boots and socks, I lay down on the treatment table and Axelle placed a pillow under my head. Then, as she lit some incense to help me unwind, she asked me to try and empty my mind.
What happened in the treatment?
Using the tips of her fingers, Axelle began a soft tapping motion along the arch of my right foot. Having previously had reflexology, I was expecting this technique to feel similar, but the fast yet gentle sensation is far more relaxing. Axelle’s hands are so soft and her touch so light that it was easy to imagine feathers brushing my foot rather than fingers. As she moved on to the sole and the big toe before working the same magic on my left foot, I began to drift off on a tide of blissful relaxation. In fact, it was only my acute awareness of how narrow the treatment table was which prevented me from rolling on my side into a foetal position and falling asleep!
Axelle then moved on to my hands. She worked along the reflex points on each wrist and palm, concentrating on the fleshy area that connects the thumb to the wrist. For the final part of the session, I sat in a chair while Axelle gently touched the reflex points on the top of the head, moving to the front of the ears. As well as my physical body, Axelle massaged the aura around me to boost my life force and encourage a sense of inner calm and focus.
How did you feel afterwards?
Once Axelle had finished I felt a little disorientated, but extremely relaxed. Remembering Axelle’s warning to expect either a burst of energy or a sense of tranquillity over the following 48 hours, I felt sure I’d experience the latter and looked forward to a lazy weekend on the sofa. But the opposite happened – by the next morning I had turned into Mrs Doubtfire! Instead of the light dusting I normally have to coax myself into, I cleaned the whole house from top to bottom – and even decided to do the windows. Then I whipped up a shepherds pie and a vat of broccoli and Stilton soup. I was so full of beans I found it hard to relax and just do nothing, which is often my weekend routine. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I was so animated.
I’m amazed at my new lease of life and boosted energy levels since experiencing the Metamorphic Technique. My renewed positivity has even prompted me to stop drinking, get fit and volunteer at my local cat shelter - things I’ve been talking about doing for years.
