  • 2 tbsp. fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp. Madal Bal natural Tree syrup
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper
  • 1 pinch ground ginger
  • 500ml spring water

Drink 8 to 10 glasses (2L) of purifying cleanser throughout the day.

Eat or drink nothing else except water; herbal blends of burdock, dandelion, red clover, sage and cleavers tea; peppermint tea or chamomile tea for duration of the detox.

Keep purifying cleanser in a class jar or else make up fresh each time.

Programme Length:

5-7 days

The standard version is 5 to 7 days. This is the classic version that has been used by thousands of people throughout the world. Many people, when thinking about fasting for the first time, believe they won't be able to make it to seven days but most find that after the second or third day it just gets easier and easier.

7-14 days

Stanley Borroughs, Hawaiian naturopath and creator of the diet, recommended the programme for 10 days because the cleansing gets better the longer the diet continues. By the time you get to the 7th day most people feel so good, that going a few extra days is easy.

Detoxification

Much disease, especially degenerative disease, comes from congestion and stagnation in the organs, tissues, circulation, lymph and cells of the body.

This stagnation can be cleared by detoxification.

Most to least congesting foods:

1. Drugs, allergy making foods, offal, hydrogenated fats

2. Fats, fried foods, meats, refined flours

3. Sweets, milk, baked goods

Less congesting

4. Nuts, seeds, oats, wheat

5. Short grain brown rice, millet, quinoa, potatoes, wholegrain pasta

6. Roots, squashes, vegetables

7. Fruits, greens, water

For best health the body needs to be more alkaline.

An alkaline forming diet contains only water, herbal teas, fruit, fruit juices (especially lemon) and vegetables (especially onion) and vegetable juices.

Before starting this detox diet it is recommended that you read 'The Lemon Detox Diet Rejuvenation Sensation' by Dr K A Beyer or 'The Master Cleanser' by Stanley Boroughs. According to Dr Beyer the Lemon Detox Diet works by stimulating your body's own natural cleansing process by giving it a break from constant work of digestion, and allowing balance to be restored.

People who have completed the programme report a wide variety of benefits including:

  • cleanising the body of toxins
  • effective weight loss
  • increased vigour and vitality
  • better digestion
  • sounder sleep
  • better circulation
  • shiny hair and stronger nails
  • clear skin and eyes
  • greater resistance to illness
  • reduced dependence on supplements and drugs
  • fortified will-power and determination
  • improved concentration and clarity of thought
  • balanced emotions
  • happier, more positive outlook
  • sense of inner peace.

Dr Beyer recommends 'The Lemon Detox Diet is for anyone who feels the need to take a more conscious control of their life. It is a commitment towards bringing out the best in ourselves; towards exploring our potential and living life to the full.
