Bananas are rich in potassium, zinc, iron, folic acid and calcium. They also contain serotonin, a neurotransmitter, believed to enhance mood.
Apples contain aromatic oils which have a calming and uplifting effect on the brain. Pectin in apples aids detoxification, circulation and blood cholesterol levels. This supports good blood flow to the brain, also encouraging positive mood.
Cherries have unusually low levels of sodium, but generous amounts of potassium. They are particularly good for supporting heart health, circulation, blood pressure and blood flow to the brain.
Dark chocolate contains threobromine, which triggers the release of endorphins and helps to relieve depression. Choose dark chocolate with at least 70% cocoa solids for the maximum flavanol content. The flavanols in cocoa solids support circulation and heart health as well as providing good antioxidant protection. In addition, dark chocolate is a good source of iron, copper and magnesium.
